You then need to be on an anaerobic routine at least 3 times working out every body-part at least once a week. You also want to incorporate an aerobic workout at least 3 times a week.  If you combine lifting weights and cardio collectively together for your workout routine you give yourself the greatest opportunity to burn an infinite amount of calories and to speed up your metabolism throughout the day. If your goal is to lose fat fast then you always want to make sure that your body is a fast churning fat burning metabolic body meaning that your metabolism is always running at a high level. You can accomplish this by being consistent when you are working out and trying not to take any breaks from your training workout.  Follow every set and every rep and every exercise to the end and never let up.

Remember you can’t get in great shape overnight but if you follow a sensible diet and training program then you can get the best body you’ve always wanted. Some people unfortunately have to work-out harder than others because of great genetics or a faster metabolism but anybody can get in shape if they do the right things. There is no magic pill to getting lean but there is a magic solution and the solution that you pick has to be the right program to help you get lean.

This may sound like a cliché and maybe you’ve heard this before that your diet is 80 percent of the battle in getting lean but it is very true. Your diet is crucial and integral in your success in losing unwanted body-fat. If you aren’t eating the right foods it is very difficult to lose weight regardless of how hard you are training in the gym unless you have superior genetics which not everybody has. Your diet and training program should always be connected together and it goes hand and hand in your fat loss success. What is your magic solution?  The magic solution is the fat loss program and system you select that will help you accomplish your fat loss goals.  Once you find it and implement it then you should see yourself inching closer to your goal every day.

          I want to thank legendary photographer Ralph Dehaan in shooting this incredible image as he was the photographer that shot my first cover with Basheerah!          I’ve graced the last 3 back to back to back quarterly covers for the same magazine this year! Dont know if that is some record internationally for a fitness model.  I cant confirm that but I will take it….LOL! Pretty cool to receive this opportunity! Ive been on the stands in Africa for about 9 straight months now:) What an honor honestly!

She dropped 11 percent in body-fat over a slow steady 6 month period of time to placing 2nd place in her first competion in her figure division for her INBA event. She went from a bodyfat of 24% to 13.5%. She worked very hard and commited to the diet and training program that was given to her and the end result was a very lean body. She has proven that anybody at any age can step on a fitness stage and be successful.

I’ve personally know Obi Obadike since about 2004, when I used to teach spinning at the LA Fitness in LaVerne, I would always see him training harder than anyone else. I admired that way back then, but it wasn’t until February of 2010 that we crossed paths again and I asked for his

help and guidance to get ready for my first Figure Competition at the age of 48.  I had already been training a month with a friend of mine Jorge Alvarez, the more we trained, the more we both realized I could do this but needed the proper diet.

Obi set me out on a plan knowing I was about 6 months out from having to be stage ready. Obi was great at adjusting where I didn’t respond or like certain foods like canned tuna J. Obi had a challenge though, up until that time I wasn’t eating meat. So he gradually introduced it into my diet and monitored me week by week. Always asking for my weight on Monday mornings along with body fat updates. Here I would go to a facility that did Hydrostatic Fat Testing. I started with Obi at 147lbs  24% body fat.  I was on a steady and safe weight loss  pattern of about 1-2 lbs week.

When I plateau’d adjustments made again. It was Obi who also told me when to start double cardio and it was then that I broke through.  August 21^st 2010 was show time, and I came in at 129lbs  13.5% body fat.  I was so excited, showing veins in my abdominals and feeling ready. I placed 2^nd for my first show, and since then have undergone some major surgeries and am recovered to the point where I am contemplating my next competition. May 8^th I will be 50 years young and will be able to compete in the Grand Masters. I am soliciting Obi’s help again and should come even better since I have only allowed approximately 6 lbs to creep back on. My goal is to be on stage at 125 this time and more muscular, all the meanwhile doing this natural. The INBA is a natural body building association and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Obi,

I just wanted to reach out and say thank you for your dedication to the fitness world and inspiring thousands to better themselves. I am not one of those extremely inspiring stories of a person who has gone from 300lbs down to 150lbs but nonetheless people like you have helped me take my ‘gym enthusiast’ hobby and turn it into a true lifestyle.

I am wrapping up the Bodybuilding.com & MusclePharm Live Shredded August Challenge this weekend and can’t wait to post my pics for the Bodyspace community to see. I am proud of myself and have you, and of course friends and family, to thank for the motivation and education. Your articles posted on musclepharm.com, Facebook and various internet resources have truly been a pillar in me taking my life from good to great (a step I find can be the hardest in any process).

         “We may have to wait a considerable amount of time since we already put a black person recently on the cover.” All of these emails I saved and I’ve never deleted it because it gave me an incredible chip on my shoulder that I still have today. I thought to myself wow this is going to be very tough to succeed in this industry with those type of responses particularly because there wasn’t really a prominent black male fitness model in the industry. I figured that was my goal was to see if I could break those color barriers that were still out there in the industry and hopefully be that prominent person of color as a male in the fitness game. I knew that if I ever was going to do this that I had to be obsessed with this fitness industry and I really cut out a lot of personal things in my life. And so what did I do? I cut out parties, women, family and basically a real social life for a couple of years because I really was obsessed with succeeding in this fitness industry and I knew that it was absolutely necessary for me to do those things.

         I knew that no cover, endorsement contract, feature was going to be dropped on my lap and I was going to have to hustle, beg, climb, scratch and do things outside the box to obtain that type of success. I figured if I could really focus and block everything out from the outside and put my money, time, energy and passion in this fitness industry that I knew I could break that color barrier wide open and be considered one of the best in the world at this. I remember vividly having many sleepless nights trying to figure out what I can do outside the box to succeed in this indsutry.

        Sometimes when you are obsessed with something and all your time, money, energy is put in this you can lose a lot during that process whether it be relationships, family, friends, etc. and I can say honestly I’ve lost a little of all this collectively in the process. But  when you are obsessed with succeeding you have to do those types of things if you really want to succeed in life particularly if the odds against you to succeed are slim to none.

        When some of the major U.S magazines turned me down when I first came in the game and the reasons had nothing do with physique or looks I said well I am going to be obsessed with putting all my energy in proving those magazines wrong. I remember vividly one of the emails from one of the fitness photographers who were an ethnic photographer that told me I am sorry man for some reason the magazine rarely puts blacks in the magazine or on the cover.  He said to maybe when this decision maker retires maybe there will be more opportunities for ethnic models in future for this magazine. This was his email back to me from my first fitness model submission email.  I told him point blank in an email in 2008, “Just watch within the next 2 years I am going to be a household name in this fitness industry in the near future and that magazine is going to be very sorry they turned me down.”

  Some of those magazines eventually did turn around and gave me that opportunity but it took a lot of hustling, climbing, scratching, begging and more importantly an undeniable obsession in putting all my time in the fitness industry with the hopes of hopefully having some  prominent success. The moral of this article is to really succeed in anything in life at the highest level of your profession you have to have an obsession and sometimes in that obsession you have to sacrifice a lot of things in your life that are enjoyable to get to that ultimate goal. I can honestly say if I wasn’t obsessed with this fitness industry I never would have made it nor had any success. What led to my obsession was proving everybody that turned me down that they made a big mistake and that an African-American male fitness model can succeed at the absolute highest level in the fitness industry.

        If you use examples of some of the best athletes in the world such as Jerry Rice and Michael Jordan who were the best in their respective sports they were obsessed with their craft. Jerry was obsessed with football and that obsession led to him being the greatest receiver ever in the NFL. Michael Jordan was obsessed with basketball and that obsession led to him being the greatest basketball player ever.  To succeed at the highest level in your profession you have to be absolutely obsessed with it and I can guarantee you that obsession will eventually lead to great success.
